August is here and Leo season is in full swing. The Sun is in the sign of the lion, along with lively Mercury. This is a great time to get back together with people you haven’t seen in ages. That said, you need to be choosy about who you associate with. A series of oppositions and retrogrades demand that you spend time with people who fill you up, not the kind who bring you down.
Gotta love Leo season: it’s a terrific time for finding new love, shopping, dining out and partying with friends. However, Saturn and Jupiter are retrograding through Aquarius, the house of friends and colleagues. On a number of occasions during the month, these orbs form difficult aspects with planets in Leo, making you wonder what the heck these people are thinking.
Pay attention on the 9th, 10th, and 19th and 24th especially. You may find throughout the entire month of August that you’re saying “no” a number of times.
As in: no, I don’t want to spend money on a super-expensive bachelorette party in Vegas. No, I don’t want to come in to the office over the weekend and finish that project. No, it’s not OK that you can’t commit. No, I don’t want to gossip about the new hire.
While these tense planetary aspects aren’t necessarily going to cause splits between you and others, they will make you think. And maybe you’ll “need some space”. Take it, and mull over what to do next.
It’s time to become the curator of your own life, with your close personal relationships a good place to start. The Aquarius full moon on the 22nd is a smart time to decide who should stay in your life, and who you you may need to subtly pull away from.
That said, there’s a lot of fun to be had. The Leo new moon on the 8th is a terrific time to meet someone new. If local regulations permit, go to a museum or the movies. Shop for some new clothes. Have brunch with friends.
Just make sure that you’re doing this on a budget, because unpredictable Uranus is acting out in Taurus, the house of saving money. Even if you are remaining conservative, others may try to get you to overspend. That’s where that word “no” comes in.
Curating your own life means being very selective about the clothes you wear, how many possessions you have at home, where you travel and the kind of “stuff” you allow into your brain. I’m referring to the books you read, the news sites you visit, social media, conversations with people and so on.
Leo loves high quality, and it’s time to raise the quality of these inputs. After months of going back-and-forth, I finally went cold turkey and stopped watching the news. I feel so much better already. I made a decision that I’m not going to allow nonstop negativity into my mind and let it affect my emotions.
August has a strong Virgo feeling going on, even before Virgo season begins on the 22nd. That’s because Venus and Mars are already cruising through Virgo when August begins. Mercury joins them on the 11th. So there’s a strong “can-do” feeling going on. The desire to get caught up on things at home and the office will be strong.
Uranus goes retrograde in Taurus on the 19th, which is actually beneficial. Money matters should start to calm down. Virgo season could help job hunters find new employment. The 22nd, 26th and 31st are all well aspected for this.
FYI: five planets will be retrograde by the time August is over, and that’s not even including Chiron. As a result, things could be a little bit on the slow side, but so be it! Retrograde periods are excellent for retrenching, reviewing and revising.
P.S. Want to learn how to read your own birth chart? I’ll be teaching a free four-part workshop in September that will show you how! Have you ever wondered why you don’t feel like a typical Scorpio, Taurus or Libra? It’s because you’re really a mix of two signs: your Sun sign and your rising sign, or ascendant. In the workshop I will explain what your rising sign is and how it creates the basis of your birth (or natal) chart. The people on my newsletter list will get first dibs on this, so if you’re interested, sign up on the right sidebar. More information will be coming over the next two weeks!
