Say “hallelujah”, say “amen”! August is a much quieter month than July, with no eclipses and few oppositions. Will there be some tension? Yes, but as your trusty astrologer I’m going to walk you though it. Overall though, this is a sparkling month with a lot of happy moments.
Here are the three big cosmic trends going on in August:
1. As of the 15th, FIVE planets will be retrograde—-which is actually a good thing. Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter are all spinning backward at the top of the month in Capricorn. Neptune is back tracking through Pisces. Then on the 15th, Uranus starts to slow down in Taurus.
What’s significant about this is that these are all outer planets. In astrology, the outer planets have more of an effect on our lives over the long haul. They have longer distances to travel than the inner planets, which means that when they enter a particular house, they’re there for quite a while. They set up trends that you really need to pay attention to.
Considering that Pluto, Jupiter and Saturn are all retrograding in Capricorn, career matters are highlighted, good news for anyone who is looking for a new job or an additional source of income. When planets spin backwards, people and situations from the past can come back: old bosses and colleagues, job offers that never gelled, business deals that fell apart and so on. This time around they could solidify, and former co-workers could tip you off about a job opening.
Neptune is backtracking through research-driven Pisces, making right now a superb time for quietly sniffing out new opportunities.
On the 15th, the planet of genius–Uranus–starts to slow down in money-conscious Taurus. This is a bonus, as financial surprises should lessen.
For a world that needs to rebuild its economic foundation, all of this planetary energy is perfect.
However, Capricorn governs anything that’s important to you, not just your career. So don’t be surprised if you’re rethinking the path ahead.
2. Fun is on the menu for the entire week of the 9th, and it spills into the following week. Yup, the fiery Sun and lively Mercury are forming a bromance in Leo from the 5th all the way to the 19th.
But the week of Sunday, August 9th is stellar. These two orbs are determined to make up for all of that Covid cabin fever you’ve endured. And they’re in Leo, the sign of living life to the fullest.
Does this mean that you and 20 of your closest friends should go to a crowded bar without masks on? Hell, no! But find a way to work around this situation. Plan a picnic in the park or at the beach. If a local venue has an outdoor movie night—and people are far enough away from each other–do it.
Leo is all about hobbies and creativity, making this a safe way to enjoy the arts without visiting a crowded museum or gallery.
Romance can really pick up steam this week, whether you’re attached or single. Just avoid money talks (read: arguments) on Monday the 10th, or discussions about where things are heading.
Thursday the 13th is a bit tense too, as Mars and Pluto–the most stubborn planets in the solar system–are in a pissing match. Steer clear of bossy types and you should do well.
But this passes quickly, to be followed by two of the best days I’ve seen in a looong time: Sunday the 16th and Monday the 17th. Yowza! The cosmos delivers FOUR fabulous aspects. Red hot Mars is having a blast in Aries, telling you to let your freak flag fly. Be your authentic self! Romance could be off the charts too. Gotta love it.
3. We should start getting back to the “new normal” around the 19th. Two aspects occur that day: the annual new moon in Leo, plus intelligent Mercury gliding into organized Virgo.
I find it interesting that these aspects occur together. When Mercury is in Virgo, you get that “back to school” or back to business feeling. (Besides, the Sun enters Virgo a few days later on the 22nd). This naturally can be very structured and ambitious.
But a new moon occurs in one of the most free-thinking, flexible parts of the zodiac: creative Leo. This means that businesses and families should be able to come up with fresh ways to approach the remainder of 2020. So far 2020 has been a sh** storm, but it ain’t over: we still have four months to go through once August ends. The Leo new moon can help us come up with better ways of handling matters.
You may not be able to control what what your boss or the government does, or even the Covid virus for that matter. At the very least, though, you can try to create more stability in your own life.
Many people have been asking me when a safe vaccine will be available. If you go by the planets, it could be late November. Neptune, the muse of scientists and the planet that governs pharmaceuticals, will be retrograde through November 28th. At that time there could be breaking news, so pay attention.
As I write this the National Institute of Health (NIH) is ramping up to do stage 3 of clinical trials of a vaccine developed by Moderna and the NIH. They’re looking for 30,000 volunteers in the US who don’t have Covid (God bless them for being so brave). It’s possible that by Thanksgiving we’ll all have something to be truly thankful for, worldwide. It may be news that the clinical trials have been successful. Here’s hoping!
Until then, enjoy August, which is truly looking like a relaxing and more peaceful month.
