July is officially here and it promises to be a good month for all signs of the zodiac. There are no hairy eclipses. Mercury isn’t retrograde. Mars is a little aggressive, but so what else is new? The big story is that Chiron, the wounded healer, begins to retrograde…and this opens up a period of introspection and awareness.
As July begins, four planets are retrograde: Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and Neptune. These are all outer planets, which means that when they slow down, circumstances in our lives can really slow down as well.
Don’t expect overnight changes in important parts of your life, no matter how desperately you want change to occur. What many people don’t realize is that planets in retrograde can be their best friend. They force us to slow down and analyze what we’re doing. That helps us to avoid making mistakes and rushing into things without enough information.
But the celestial orb I’m paying attention to right now is Chiron. This is a comet, and astrologers often don’t pay a lot of attention to it. Chiron was first discovered in 1997, orbiting the Sun between Saturn and Uranus. It was named after a centaur in Greek mythology.
Chiron, half-man and half-horse, was famous for being a healer and a teacher. Ironically, he couldn’t heal himself, which is why he is known in astrology as “the wounded healer”.
Chiron begins to retrograde on July 15 in Aries. I have to be honest, when this comet starts to spin backwards in the heavens, old hurts and sorrows will come bubbling up to the surface of your mind and your soul. You can choose to stew on them and let them fester. Or, you can view this as an auspicious time for getting rid of them forever.
This might mean forgiving someone who has hurt your feelings. It doesn’t mean that you are tacitly accepting what they did, but you’ve come to the point where you just don’t feel like carrying around this baggage any longer. Or maybe you need to talk to a therapist about a bad habit. Perhaps you need to hang around with happier people, the kind who fill you up instead of draining you. Maybe you need to raise your standards.
By zodiac sign, here’s the area of your life that you should be focusing on:
Aries: everything! Considering that Chiron is in your sign, all aspects of your life are up for grabs…but most importantly, your big dreams. Don’t shoot too low: aim for the stars.
Taurus: habits, especially the kind that affect your physical and mental health. Memories. Your thought patterns. Any person or situation that may be toxic. Say buh-bye and move on.
Gemini: friends, business colleagues, clubs and volunteer groups. Is anyone putting you down, making you feel “less than”? Maybe your tribe is just fine, thank you, but it would do you good to be around some fresh faces.
Cancer: your career. Dead end jobs, crazy bosses and clients, way too much stress, unrealistic deadlines, a long commute….it’s time to reconsider your options.
Leo: taking chances! Leo is a fixed sign, which means that you– as fierce as you are–can get into a rut. It’s time to travel, become an entrepreneur, write a book. Learn a language. Date a different kind of person. Be honest…you know where you’re holding back.
Virgo: net worth and deep emotions. If you think that you’ll never buy a house or retire rich, you’re right…you never will. Your thinking will make it so. Likewise, if you think that your emotions control you rather than the other way around, you’ll be stuck in a stinky loop. Is that what you really want?
Libra: serious relationships in love and business. If you’re always putting up with someone else’s bad behavior, or a relationship is not a two-way street, you need to wake up. Those Libras with people on retainer (lawyers, VAs, agents) need to make sure that they’re dealing with the cream of the crop.
Scorpio: health and fitness. Quit procrastinating and get on that diet….and stay there. The same goes for attending to aches and pains, allergies and other health issues. Start treating your body like it’s a temple.
Sagittarius: romance, children and creativity. “I’m too old to go to learn a new skill/hobby/occupation….”, “the person I’m with romantically is the best I can do, all the good ones are already taken…”, “this is just the way my kids behave, I guess I have to put up with it….”. Wrong, wrong and wrong. Seriously, archer. Get a grip.
Capricorn: home and family matters. Are you the only one helping out Mom and Dad because your siblings are slackers? Are you carrying around crummy memories from your childhood? Living in a house or neighborhood that doesn’t make you happy? Vamanos!
Aquarius: the way you express yourself. In words, written and spoken. In the way you dress. The kind of thoughts you think. On a higher level, how you communicate in your career. How you promote your brand if you’re self-employed. If there’s any embarrassment (website shame, for example) it’s time for an upgrade.
Pisces: money, especially the kind you earn (in contrast to the money you invest or inherit). Are you settling for less income than you deserve? Do you spend everything you make because it makes you feel uncomfortable to be well-off? There are a lot of hang-ups that people have around money. What are yours?
Chiron will be retrograde through December 19, which gives you plenty of time to reflect and make changes. Take a look at your monthly horoscope here on the site to see where the other four orbs are retrograding. When you put all of this together, a picture will emerge.
July has a lovely, healing energy running through it. Don’t worry, you won’t spend the entire month dealing with past issues! After all, the fiery Sun enters live-out-loud Leo on the 22nd….which means that it’s time to play, shop, dine out and absorb some culture. Enjoy!
